Spotify finally lets you share podcast episodes with a timestamp

No more skimming and skipping

Spotify finally lets you share podcast episodes with a timestamp

“Did you hear what Joe Rogan said on his podcast?”

This is a question that you hear frequently; it’s normal to get curious and try and find out what he said in the latest episode. Until now, you had to surf Twitter for a clip, or listen to the whole podcast to find out.

Thankfully, Spotify is introducing a new feature to let you share podcasts with a time marker. That means the episode will start playing from a specified point, so you can listen to the interesting bit and go on with your life.

How can you share a podcast with timestamps? Play the podcast episode you want to share, and hit the share button at the desired timestamp. Turn on the toggle for timestamp as shown below, and share the link. When the recipient opens that link, the podcast episode will start playing from the particular time.

Spotify is also encouraging podcast makers to create promo cards with timestamped links and quotes from their shows. That could tell people what the episode is about, and even if you don’t subscribe to the podcast, chances are that you might at least check out that clip in the listed episode to get a taste.

YouTube has had this function for ages, and other podcast apps such as Pocket Casts let you share time-marked links as well. But as a lot of people are using Spotify for podcast consumption, it’s a neat feature to share interesting moments of an episode with friends.
