Although Oculus officially began shipping its Rift VR headsets on March 28 – beating HTC to the punch – some orders have been delayed due to an ‘unexpected component shortage.’
The company apologized to customers who had previously placed orders for the $599 device over email and promised to update shipping status information by April 12. Oculus also said it will bear the cost of shipping for all orders placed before April 2, including those from international customers.
CEO Brendan Iribe acknowledged the delay in a tweet over the weekend.
First set of Rifts are going out slower than we orig estimated, so we're giving free shipping for all pre-orders, including international.

This means that some folks who decided to go with HTC may receive their headset ahead of those who ordered a Rift, as the Vive is scheduled to begin shipping on April 5. Regardless, VR gaming is an absolute blast and I can tell you from experience that it’s totally worth the wait.
