Groupon has acquired Boomerang, a service for sending gifts to friends, with plans to integrate the team into its Freebies coupon offering. The service will shut down on December 31, 2013, so gift recipients will need to save their redemption instructions before then.
Boomerang already had close ties to Groupon after launching last year with $1 million in funding from Lightbank, a fund created by Groupon CEO Eric Lefkofsky and co-founder Brad Keywell.
